I am PRAYING they don’t move everything to pocket because pocket feels like a less competitive version of the TCG. How on earth I’m I going to practice for irl TCG stuff when I’m playing pretty much a whole new card game. Really excited for pocket, but I hope they don’t move everything over

Thank you for the vid, and you are right. There is so much work to put in to be the best at something. One of my friends recently won the team event and pairs event in the world championships for pool, he even made the final for the Men’s singles but just never happened. He plays a lot and has put the grind in and has sacrificed a lot to achieve where he is now and I agree with your sentiment too. TCGs are no different and we all have to put the grind in, if we want to achieve the goals that we set ourselves

I fully agree with u Tricky gym and i wanted to say who are whinning, playing in league cups and challenges often enough to earn enough points with a regional or two added, to get the worlds invite is already pay to win...i can't even afford a single regional or multiple cups/challenges with my income, so be more thankful that u have the privilege to go to those events and have a nice time there

what if money is the issue, I can honestly say a couple of big events a year is my limit cost wise, I am now priced out of a worlds invite, is that fair?

I love to play just for the love of the game and never had any great ambition to get a worlds invite. I live in Germany and we don't have a great event structure over here. Even to find a "local" event I have to travel a bit. To get an invite always meant lots of traveling to other countries. For me thats not an option, I already often can't attend the "local" events because I don't have the money for the travel. So for me nothing has changed. But still I can see that the paywall just went up and cut off a lot of good players on account of their circumstances. I'll still enjoy to play and connect with people over the TCG, but I can't help feeling sad that as always money can buy you everything.

I’d be fine with the top X cut, however I think the best finishes for regionals/ICs should change depending on the region. For Oceania, we (usually) get 3 regionals and 0 ICs, so a best finishes of 3 I think would be fairer

It might be nice if they just get rid of points for regionals and above and give invites to top X instead at all events like Japan. Eliminates the pay wall

Coming from someone who also has a competitive background: this is the most realistic approach I’ve heard someone take about this news. Don’t get me wrong: does this way not feel good as a newer competitor? Sure, but it doesn’t mean that I can’t have a great time with my friends and do what I can until worlds is something that is feasible for me.

I play in Japan and unfortunately it’s about time ptci regions change the invite structure because we’ve never had point thresholds or the ability to go to as many tournaments as we want. However I think ICs should be open to players in non tpci regions too and there should be one in Asia or they shouldn’t count for points just invites for top x because you basically have to go to all 3 at this point which is gonna price out a lot of people

It’s tough. I like the invite structure being more… earned. However, earning here might be tantamount to job earnings. Only those who can afford to go to several regulars and ics can qualify. Which could be fine as your devotion would pay off, but it might mean the better players don’t go because they can’t keep up with the cp if the more well off competitors who get 2 or 3 more chances at it. Doesn’t affect me at all though, I only care about glc :)

Im a huge fan of your Andrew but I don’t agree with your opinion at all. As someone who did regional and ics in my past and now only play casual. Tcpi is actively against growing the game because the more the competitive side grows the more they will lose money. You have experienced all you can in Pokémon. And this hurts new and up and coming players. It’s a sad day for the beautiful games we love

I think the issue is that Pokémon's World Championships is looking like a pay-to-play situation and, unless you're rich or sponsored, you're stuck on the outside looking in. It also means, for many people, they are feeling like their personal lives, jobs, other interests, and families are going to need to take a backseat because of how much it looks like you need to do. PCI should put more limits on what all is allowed to count towards that top 125 if they want to shatter that perception people seem to have of it being pay-to-play.

Everyone in the comments bitching about “fair” if you feel that strongly that you’re that good as a player then you should have no issue getting top 32 or better at most events. Plus winning your locals. Worlds is meant for the best players

While i agree with all the points made. Personally I think this system doesn't currently work at least fro the Latin American scene. Most Latin American Countries don't even get regionals, and sometimes get the 1 SP event. While other like Brazil get multiple regionals a season. This in itself with the new system makes it just harder for true competitive people of some of this countries to participate in comparison to others. And sometimes even traveling to Brazil for example can be more expensive or complicated than going to the USA, in the past the competitive people were able to close this gap with local events and then go to regionals and IC to fully achieve higher results. All I can say is I hope we get more regionals down here and not only the odd (and sometimes questionably arranged) SP events

I think ultimately this a very bad decisions. The old system was not great either. Imo pokemon should be after the concept that ANYONE could be the next pokemon tcg world champion....but the new system basically says if you can not travel a crazy amount and have loads of money or sponsorships then youll never make worlds. And thats garbage. Imo pokemon should have made it much easier to make worlds and just try make it a even bigger event. If you want to cap the amount of players then cap it each year at a different amount or cap at 500 for NA. If people want the pokemon tcg to grow this is not the answer... infact its a huge blow to competitive pokemon. They should be ashamed honestly.

Honestly if they're gonna go with this route they need to let everyone who wants to play in these events play. No more players not being able to go because they didn't get registered in time and all the spots filled up in 10 minutes. Everyone should be allowed the opportunity if they're gonna be more selective. That's what I fear most with this

I totally get your sentiments Andrew. But people from poorer countries or backgrounds get such a severe disadvantage under this structure. Not really a world I want to live in.

My understanding is that ICs are included in the regional BFL.

Long time lover of your content and personal fan. Ive always felt like you were a "call it like I see it" guy and you've never been afraid to tell TPCi to do better if you felt they were falling short. BUT this feels like a video coming from the mindset of someone who has already achieved multiple invites so maybe it doesnt mean as much to you anymore. I remember you being really disheartened when events resumed post covid and you didnt get an invite after coming off one of the strongest starts to your season in 2019- early 2020. Unfortunately, not all of us are career pokemon players like you. We dont all have sponsors, we cant all always afford to take time off work and the money for travel. Think of how many people live rurally that this just killed the dream for. For a lot of people it wasnt about winning worlds, it was just about the experience of just getting there and being apart of it. Think of all the junior and senior players this kills the dream for, because now their parents wont be able to afford the travel for them both to be able to go to events and geind it out to not only achieve a top spot but to HOLD that position. And unfortunately for the player base, the top players who are career players or can afford the luxury of traveling to play wont stop once they have their auto in with a first place or top 4 anymore than they stopped once they reached their 600 before, but its not just about travel stipends anymore. This is going to hurt the player base as well with those players farming events. Pokemon is different than other competitions on top of it being a business that relies on the growth and maintenance of its community to stay relevant and functional. People spend a lot of money to travel to events, sure, but also think of the money people spend on cards to build viable decks to be able to compete at a top level, and we're fairly lucky in that we have one of the cheaper TCGs. Ive seen some people in discord channels for other TCGs talking about this and even they think its bad. They say point systems like this really benefit grinders and not necessarily better players. Other card games went through similar attempts and they turned into burnout pretty quick. Most of the players that ended up doing well were players that were supported by companies. It created a black hole of people who were sponsored or could afford to attend every event. As someone whos been playing since the start but never been able to achieve a worlds invite, mainly due to limited resources, its disheartening. It feels wrong and bad. I only hope that they increase the cap from 125 players to maybe 200 and/or possibly add more regionals and/or online events to create more opportunities.

As the longest OG veteran of the game, you're condencending comments about starting small or going for lower goals is just infurating. Like bro, i'm just trying to make my first worlds. Try being in my shoes, someone who has put in years and years of hard work to never be quite good enough nor be able to travel nearly as much as Azul, Tord, or Wolfe so already at a huge disadvantage.

Great so if youre a good player but cant afford to make all the international events you aint making worlds.
